Service · for mentors

you@yourname.com, before you send a single pitch.

Evensteer sets up you@yourname.com for your mentoring practice, with deliverability records, signatures that match your brand and your old mail migrated over. “I look at ‘joesshopofhorrors@gmail.com’ like a fly-by-night operation. It screams ‘side hustle.’” A business owner wrote that on r/smallbusiness, in a thread with 101 comments. The people weighing you up as a mentor read the address before the message. Yours should carry your own name.

Questions

Questions mentors ask about business email

Should a mentor use a Gmail address or a custom domain?

Use your own domain once you charge for mentoring. A free address is fine for friends. People deciding whether to pay you read the address before the message, and a free one can look like a side project. An address on your own domain also stays yours if you change email providers. You can still read it in a familiar inbox app, because the address and the app are separate choices.

What email address should I use for my mentoring business?

Use your first name at your own domain, like you@yourname.com. It feels personal and it’s easy to remember. Avoid generic addresses like info@ as your main contact, because they read like a shared company inbox. If your practice has a brand name, you can register that domain too and send its mail to the same inbox. Keep the address short and easy to say out loud. If you send a newsletter, a separate marketing email address like news@yourname.com keeps its replies apart from mentee mail.

Why are my replies to mentee inquiries going to spam?

If you send from your own domain, the usual cause is missing records that prove the mail really comes from you. They’re called SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and inbox providers check them before they trust a message. Without them, even a warm reply can land in junk. Ask whoever set up your email to check those records, then send a test to a friend and see where it lands. Evensteer sets up these records as part of your business email.

Can I keep my old emails when I switch my mentoring practice to my own domain?

Yes. Your old messages can be copied into the new mailbox, so your history comes with you. Tell regular contacts and current mentees about the new address. Keep the old account open for a while and forward its mail, so nothing sent there goes unread. Update the address on your profiles, your booking page and your email signature. Evensteer migrates your old mail over as part of the setup.
